Movies, like any art form, can be interpreted and appreciated in many different ways. One person may see a movie as a drama with an emotional core and others as an action thriller that is fun to watch. Regardless of which you prefer or what genre you prefer, there are many movies available for streaming from top services such as Netflix or Hulu. In the following article we look at The Happening starring Mark Wahlberg which was originally released in 2008. However this movie gained notoriety when it was re-released on Netflix earlier this year due to the popularity of the sci-fi thriller Bird Box that came out just before Christmas time that same year. The storyline takes place in the suburbs of New York City. A young middle-class couple, Elliot Moore played by Mark Wahlberg and Alma Hall played by Zooey Deschanel are having a typical day at home. After they both leave the house for work, they realize there is something different about the weather conditions. The weather feels strange, almost as if something is not quite right. As they reach work, what was thought to be just an unusual day begins to feel more like it could be an environmental incident of sorts. This is due to the fact that most of their coworkers are feeling tired and sick after working outside all day long in very hot temperatures. While they are being interviewed by the newspaper about the incident, their doctor arrives to talk with them about their symptoms. They realize they are not alone when people begin to die in gruesome ways. After their doctor explains that this is an environmental phenomenon that they can't see or smell, Elliot tries to rescue his wife from the building where she works. The building was built with no windows which is believed to be protecting it from outside dangers however something appears to have breached the walls and gained entry into the building. The rest of the story follows Elliot who tries to stop his wife from being murdered by the creatures despite her best efforts at keeping herself safe. Mark Wahlberg plays Elliot Moore who is a father who works as an architect by day and is married to Alma. While they are having their typical day at home, Elliot notices unusual weather conditions which he feels are different from the usual. As he leaves to go to work, he realizes something is wrong when people begin to die over the span of over two hours. He tries to take Alma with him, but she refuses leaving him alone in his car as other vehicles are being attacked by the creatures outside. Elliot makes it into work earlier than normal, but he realizes that everybody else has left their cars and gone home due to feeling ill due to the extreme heat outside. Elliot tries to leave his desk and rescue Alma as she is trapped inside. He finds her in an elevator, but the door won't open. Thinking she is dead, he leaves her there and goes back for help. As he does this, the creatures begin to attack other coworkers and people outside. As Elliot makes his way back upstairs to find Alma, he encounters a man who insists that there is only one way out: through the window. Elliot refuses and tries to make his way back into the building where he has security guards waiting with guns for him at their desk. As he makes it into the building, several shots are fired by security guards as they try to kill whatever is outside of the building.
